Explosion-Proof Lighting Selection Guide
Explosion-proof lighting should be selected by combining hazardous-area classification with the optical, mechanical and environmental needs of the installation. Wattage or lumen output alone is not enough.
Start with the Zone and certificate scope
Before comparing light output, confirm the Zone, gas or dust group, temperature class, protection concept and ambient-temperature range required by the site.
Choose the luminaire type for the application
Linear luminaires may suit general process lighting, floodlights may suit high-bay or outdoor areas, compact tank lights may suit confined areas, and certified exit-sign products may be needed on escape routes.
Lighting performance is not the only criterion
Lumen output matters, but mounting height, light distribution, glare, ambient temperature, maintenance access and mechanical robustness should be evaluated together.
IP rating and enclosure construction
Dust, water, chemical exposure and corrosion influence the required IP rating and enclosure/diffuser material. Outdoor and wash-down areas may require additional protection.
Verify the ordered configuration
Power, voltage, mounting method, cable entries, emergency options and exit graphics should be verified together with the certified product configuration before order.
