Explosion-proof panels and control units bring command and distribution functions together in a certified hazardous-area configuration. The key is to evaluate the required electrical function together with the enclosure and component certification scope.
Define the function first
Clarify required functions such as on/off control, selector switches, push buttons, signal lamps and emergency stops before selecting the enclosure. The complete configuration must be considered as a certified system.
Zone and environmental conditions
Zone classification, gas or dust group, temperature class and ambient temperature are primary inputs. Outdoor exposure, humidity, corrosion, solar load and wash-down conditions also affect enclosure and IP requirements.
Components are part of the certification concept
Push buttons, switches, selector switches, signal devices and cable glands are integral to panel safety. Combining individually suitable parts at random does not automatically make the complete assembly suitable.
Cable entries, mounting and maintenance
Cable-entry direction, gland sizes, installation space and maintenance access should be considered early. A configuration that avoids unauthorized field modifications helps preserve certificate integrity.
